We enjoy the process for each of our puppies being hand chosen by their owners after a two way interview. Families, young children especially, love to come with notebooks and questions to help care for their new puppy and we love it! We do ask a few questions and review some techniques and strategies with the families. People whose background is from Africa or other continents overseas, entrepreneurs, diversified professionals, young active couples, growing families, and retired families alike have all come to meet our line and have fallen in love. Many families keep in touch from different litters from several states and across Colorado.
We have resulted with more inquires than puppies each litter and we try to maintain order of showing with order of inquiry or deposit and accommodate to the best of our abilities. By the time the puppies go home they do have their first round of shots and will have seen the vet at least twice by 8 weeks to be cleared medically and we usually monitor the puppies for two days after the 8 week shots to ensure you won't have surprise reactions after taking your puppy to their next booster.
This last litter of 10 was the largest litter Guardian Ridgebacks has experienced. While it was a lot of hands on work, it was such a joy to meet so many incredible families and pair them with these little love bugs! We have had a total of 4 litters now and all have been blessed to be so successful.
With every litter comes more experience, understanding, and improved strategy to improve and share this breed. We do not breed for the largest possible outcome but rather a large dog with less chance of large dog medical challenges. We are very proud to call each of these puppies a favorable variety of representation for the breed.
Thank you to all the loving families that have trusted our family to bring the new addition of their family to age to go home.
Family support is a powerful bond that this breed has only made stronger and created memories with. Gratitude to all of the friends & family of Guardian Ridgebacks!!!

Primary Contact for Pup appointments
Primarily communicated over e-mail, text, or the WhatsApp for video calling, there would be regular updates on your reserved puppy as well as growth updates for every vet appointment before pick up. Copies of all paperwork is scanned in and e-mailed except for the AKC registration packet which is unique and private to each puppy. Usually the family (Sienna, Apollos, and Mama Tess), will all be added to communication as well. Communication between new puppy families starts with us always asking permission to share information and then families are free to share thoughts, ideas, and experiences from there.
How blessed are we to have such amazing friends who also help us through. From start to finish, we can always count on God's provision for spectacular people participating in our program^_^
Thank you all!!!

Greetings to all!
My name is Sienna from Elbert, Colorado and thank you so much for taking your time to learn more about the start of Guardian Ridgebacks! Interest in this breed has been a passion since I was in middle school and by the time I graduated high school in 2010, I set out to purchase a home, start a ever evolving breeding program and share my love of this amazing breed. This all came true in May 2012 when I moved to Elbert on a little under a half acre. At 19 years old that seemed like a lot to work with. The progressing idea now is to find acreage for expansion. I knew that Rhodesian Ridgebacks were the breed for me because of their loyalty, protective watch dog instincts, and intelligence among many other traits. These are the biggest qualities I look for in dogs that travel with me and Ridgebacks were all that and a bag of tricks. I had never owned such a strong willed and personality driven breed before. With their heritage from European hunting hounds being mixing with local hounds in South Africa for the protection of the tribe from lions, it felt very appropriate that there would be a sense of protection and culture that is declared with every characteristic of this breed.
It is a joy matching these puppies with families with lots of energy and love to share with this exercise necessary addition to the family. Though, who doesn't want to go be pampered by a fun loving retired couple every day of their life? Makes me want to be a dog. These are dogs that will reflect and work with an owner with a good heart with proper training. It is also a great advantage for someone to have such a close companion both emotionally and for protection both in nature and in everyday life. In the future, ideally there will be a clear communication with a service dog trainer as well. If there are special needs at hand and Ridgebacks are still in your DNA, we want to try and connect you with the right people.
This is a very unique breed for a special owner and training is the skeleton key. Socialization is necessary early and a lot of research on the breed will say that these dogs aren't good with strangers or other animals unless raised with them. This doesn't have to be the case. I have exposed all of dogs to cats, other dogs, chickens, and infants-retirement homes (strangers and family). Ridgebacks need a strong owner, someone willing to give ultimate affection and loyalty back to them. These dogs bond to their owner as family and would struggle a great deal being re-homed after growing to their initial owner. This is why anytime that a puppy from Guardian Ridgebacks is no longer able to stay with their owner for whatever reason, there is no shame, the contract of sale requires that the dog will be returned to us if a suitable home is not found. The pound, abusive owners, fighting pits, or left a stray is not where Guardian Ridgeback's dogs are going to find themselves. All the puppies adopted are so loved and cared for as part of the family growing up. We hope to do everything we can to help you find the puppy that will expand your life and heart as mine have. Please do the research necessary to assess if this is the right breed for you and your family. The application you will receive will also have some pointers to consider before going forward with an adoption.
My family are the foundation of the concept behind the ideal outcome for these puppies- family. As I do want each pup to become a member of a family I would like to say that there may be people who look down their nose at papered breeding when there are so many animals to be rescued. Don't let other people shape the family you're going to live with for years or choose your family's experiences without concern for your circumstance. While it is a true fact that there are many animals already in need of care, most families need at least 1 positive first or recovering experience with a dog to establish ongoing bonds and not furthering fear or discomfort with dogs. This does not rule out rescuing another animal even in a small time frame from purchase. I have attached links on "The Breed" page for rescue and foster care as well. People will always have something to say about what choices people are making but the bottom line comes down to your family and your current needs and safety. Another positive way to give back is to donate supplies, support, or volunteer with family at a local shelter event or even routinely. Simply take care to wash up before crossing contact with animals that may be ill and your own. Ideally all the families that purchase from any of our litters has hearts of gold and apply themselves as passionately as the Ridgeback they are taking home.
Thank you for considering the home of Guardian Ridgebacks to provide you with a quality puppy. The name Guardian Ridgeback was inspired by the need of a family always needing that dependable and loyal companion around. These are each treasured bundles of joy that with proper care can evolve into the most gentle and loyal of giants. Raised in the fresh air of the country, surrounded by loving family members to aid in their conditioning for their final family snuggles, as well as surrounded by a pack of other Ridgebacks and a very brave cat; these little ones are socialized and nurtured as a lamb from the night they are born in a warm home. These are intended for family and ranch/companion dogs. With every litter we grow in our experience and always strive to offer the best service for this lifetime purchase of quality. We would be happy to meet you and conduct an interview for one of these incredible puppies of Zuse and MaiLynn Rae of Guardian Ridgebacks home. Both parents live together and would be introduced with the puppies alone with their pedigrees. Pleases feel free to e-mail Guardian.Ridgebacks23@Gmail.com or text 720.609.8557 with any inquires or questions. E-mail is preferred. Take care and Happy New Year to all!
